Facebook: 'Boycott BP' page disabled in error

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- FACEBOOK is embroiled in another controversy after the popular social networking site on Monday temporarily disabled a page that calls for a boycott of oil giant BP. FACEBOOK officials said Tuesday the site was removed in ERROR through a technological GLITCH and has been RESTORED.

The Boycott BP page aims to organize a worldwide boycott of BP (BP) stations and all its brands in response to the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of MEXICO. It urges visitors to "Boycott BP stations until the spill is cleaned up." In addition to the station boycott, it advocates boycotting Castrol, Arco, Aral, Amoco, am/pm and even the Wild Bean Cafe.

The group said it has more than 700,000 members. The site went down Monday, with visitors redirected to Facebook's HOME page. Facebook spokeswoman Annika HEINLE said there was nothing sinister behind the move, and an automated system mistakenly flagged the page for removal.

"The administrative profile of the BP Boycott page was disabled by our automated systems, therefore removing all the content that had been created by the profile," a FACEBOOK statement said. "After a manual review, we determined the profile was removed in error, and it now has been restored along with the page."

The missing page prompted a protest from Public CITIZEN, a nonprofit public interest group that has been promoting the boycott. It called the removal of the page IRRESPONSIBLE and said users should be given a better EXPLANATION"...

Oil firms may find BP asset race tough

Stiff competition from international peers could hamper prospects

"BEIJING - Chinese oil companies may find it tough to convert the potential opportunities that may arise when BP Plc decides to divest some of its assets into actual deals, analysts said on Tuesday.

Domestic companies will have to evaluate the deals cautiously if they want to benefit from them, they said.

Cash-rich Chinese oil companies are likely to join the list of potential bidders if BP sells some of its assets to fund the Gulf of Mexico oil spill clean up, said Chen Weidong, chief energy researcher with the energy research institute affiliated to the China National Offshore Oil Corp (Cnooc).

"Domestic companies must study the BP assets carefully," he said.

The valuation of oil and gas assets is affected by many factors, especially the fluctuating crude prices. Domestic oil companies "should make comprehensive asset evaluations" to benefit from the deals, said Chen.

As there are still a lot of uncertainties, oil companies should be well prepared for the difficulties, said Lin Boqiang, director of the China Center for Energy Economics Research at XIAMEN University.

"Domestic companies will face stiff competition from foreign peers for the valuable BP assets. It may not be an easy race to win," said Lin.

Although Chinese oil companies have been stepping up their overseas expansion pace in recent years, they still lack the requisite experience and management skills needed for such deals, he said.

PetroChina Co, the listed arm of China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), would have "persuasive" reasons to seek a takeover of BP, BLOOMBERG said recently, quoting a Standard CHARTERED Bank report of June 10.

But political opposition in the West would render impossible such a deal, said analysts.

"Don't forget the UNOCAL case. Chinese oil companies will face similar hurdles in overseas deals," said Lin"...

Auch wenn Alex nicht direkt am Ort der Ölpest im Golf von Mexiko wütet, behindert er den Kampf gegen die Katastrophe: Die Schiffe, die das ausgetretene Öl abschöpfen, setzten ihre Arbeit am Dienstag wegen rauer See aus. Das Öl kann sich nun ungehindert den Stränden der US-Staaten Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi und Florida nähern. Nach Angaben der Küstenwache und des BP-Konzerns wurden die Reinigungsschiffe aus Sicherheitsgründen zurückbeordert. Wann die Maßnahmen im Golf von Mexiko wieder anlaufen können, war nicht abzusehen.

tja, dann mal viel spaß mit der aktie. wat passiert wohl, wenn ein hurrikan direkt vor ort einschlägt?

warum wollen die dummen amis erst jetzt hilfe von anderen ländern annehmen? daran kann man schon ersehen wie sehr eingenommen diese vögel von sich sind. unglaublich!

und öl wird noch näher zur küste gespült,
aber die aktie steigt heute.

ich hoffe ihr hattet rechtzeitig verkauft, denn hier ist er, der rebound ;-)

 

aber ich würd mich nicht zu früh freuen, so einen mini - rebound hatten wir Ende Mai schonmal

wie sagte herr wulff vor der heutigen wahl? man sollte den morgen nicht vor dem abend loben. :D

ich hab zeit. bp nicht. denn das wetter und der immer weitere ölaustritt mit schlechtem image arbeitet gegen diesen dreckskonzern. ;-)

nur muss Bp über den ersten Widerstand von 4,10/4,20 kommen.
In den letzten 5 Tagen hat sich zudem eine schöne W-Formation herausgebildet, in der sich die Aktie gerade befindet. Sollte der positive Trend halten, könnten die Zeichen (anhängig von evtl. Schlagzeilen) diese Wochen auf Erholung stehen, welche in einen leicht bis mäßig positiven Seitwärtstrend mündet. In diesem warten wir dann auf das Schließen des Bohrloches.

Hurrikan lässt Eindämmung der Ölpest stocken

Einen herben Rückschlag mussten die USA in ihren Bemühungen um die Eindämmung der Ölpest im Golf von Mexiko hinnehmen. Der erste Hurrikan der Saison verhindert derzeit ein weiteres Vorgehen gegen die Ölkatastrophe. Das kontrollierte Abfackeln sowie das Errichten von Ölsperren haben die USA aufgrund des kommenden Hurrikans eingestellt.

Demnächst wird BP die 2 € durchschlagen ! Die andere Frage ist, welcher Anlieger ist den noch bereit, nach der grössten Naturkatastrophe in den USA jemals wieder in BP zu investieren ....?? Ich auf jeden Fall nicht ! Vorher kaufe ich einen Call auf den Dax ! Aber die Entscheidung ist jedem selbst überlassen.
