German pharmas knocked by Novartis ulcer drug generic By Steve Goldstein LONDON (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Altana (DE:760080: news, chart, profile) (AAA: news, chart, profile) and Schwarz Pharma (DE:722190: news, chart, profile) plunged 4.5 and 16.5 percent, respectively, after Novartis (NVS: news, chart, profile) said it would launch a generic version of anti-ulcer treatment Prilosec in the U.S., which would undercut AstraZeneca (UK:AZN: news, chart, profile) (AZN: news, chart, profile) sales of the drug. Altana produces a different anti-ulcer drug, pantoprazole, while Schwarz markets a generic version of Prilosec. Novartis shares eased 0.1 percent and AstraZeneca shares eased 0.2 percent.
