In the current food crisis one doesn?t see biofuels being blamed as it was a few years ago. The ?Teller vs. Tank? argument was surprisingly flamed by aid agencies such as the United Nations which were staffed by idealistic people used to giving away the food surpluses of rich countries to poor countries. This had the perverse effect of undercutting Third World agriculture. Now rich countries need the surpluses for biofuel production so the aid agencies now advocate bestowing uplifting support for Third World agriculture such as farm equipment, fertilizer, seeds and technology. By stopping the dumping, food prices rise to a level where wages flow to rural communities, ending poverty and capital can be accumulated for investing in equipment, seeds and fertilizer.
