Lynas' Malaysian licence under appeal
An appeal has been lodged in Malaysia against Australian rare earths miner Lynas' licence to operate a controversial new processing plant.
Lynas said it understood the appeal to the Malaysian Government would be heard next month.
The Government last month granted a temporary operating licence to Lynas despite widespread community protests against the facility over radiation fears.
Lynas has one of the world's richest rare earths deposits at Mt Weld, near Leonora.
The Malaysian plant would provide an alternative supply of rare earths to China, which provides more that 90 per cent of the minerals used in popular electronic devices and cars Lynas' shares were up 4 cents, or 3.7 per cent, to $1.12 at 10.14am.
