11.Mai 2005 D'Arcangelo, an entrepreneur, author and speaker, was hired in November 2002 to get the multilevel marketing company back on track, but the company posted widening losses in each year of his tenure. Last year, the Food and Drug Administration banned ephedra, the active ingredient in a weight-loss product that produced nearly one third of AMS' sales revenue. The company lost $6.3 million last year and posted a $1.3 million loss in the first quarter of this year. Last week, the company's stock dipped to a 52-week low of $1.85 on the American Stock Exchange. The company's market capitalization -- the value of all the company's outstanding stock -- has slipped to $14 million.
A free trial program initiated last year by D'Arcangelo increased recruitment of sales agents but squeezed profits by hiking the cost of sales and the amount of commissions paid. In the wake of the ephredra ban, D'Arcangelo began predicting profitability was imminent, but those forecasts faded as AMS' earnings grew more dismal each quarter.....
