Microsoft drängt in den Markt für personalisierte Internet-Werbung
Nach einem Bericht des Wall Street Journals hat Microsoft eine neue Offensive im Markt für Online-Werbung gestartet. Das Unternehmen hat damit begonnen, die Daten der Nutzer des Hotmail-Services zu erfassen. Damit will Microsoft seine Angebote im Sektor "Personalisierte Werbung im Internet" ausbauen. Die erhobenen Daten sollen helfen Werbeangebote gezielt zu möglichen Interessenten zu lotsen, die zu dem Profil des Produktes passen.
Experten werten den Vorstoß als Kampfansage gegen Google und Yahoo, denn Microsoft spielt im Bereich Internetsuchmaschinen und Internetwerbung trotz seiner Größe in fast allen anderen Bereichen des Softwaresektors kaum eine Rolle.

Ford wird bis 2008 Dutzende Modelle seiner Fahrzeugpalette mit der sprachgesteuerten Software SYNC zum Dirigieren von Handys, CD-Playern bzw. MP3-Playern, etc. von Microsoft ausrüsten. Ford hofft auf einen größeren Absatz seiner dadurch attraktiveren Fahrzeuge, für Microsoft ist es ein weiterer Schritt raus dem Bereich der Home- und Office-Anwendungen.
Microsoft Says Ford to Use Mobile Phone, Music Software in Cars

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. will team with Ford Motor Co. to provide drivers with voice-activated software that helps them make mobile phone calls and play songs stored on digital music players.
Ford will offer the system, called Sync, in a dozen 2008 models, including the Ford Explorer and Focus, Velle Kolde, product manager for Microsoft's automotive business unit, said in an interview. Ford, the second-largest automaker in the U.S., will expand that to all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars in 2009.
The agreement is the largest ever for the decade-old unit, helping Microsoft, the largest software maker, expand further beyond the home and office for potential customers. Ford is seeking to attract more buyers with new features as its share of car and light truck sales dwindles in the U.S.
Kolde declined to disclose terms of the agreement. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft will provide details on the agreement at the Consumer Electronics Show today in Las Vegas, while Ford will promote the software at a press conference at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Ford's U.S. car and light-truck sales slid 8 percent last year, more than triple the industrywide 2.6 percent decrease. Ford, based in Dearborn, Michigan, has said its goal is to prevent its U.S. share of sales of the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands from falling below 14 percent to 15 percent.
Those brands captured 16.4 percent of the market in 2006, down from 17.4 percent the year before, according to Autodata Corp.
Talk to the Car
Microsoft's software only works with cellphones that have a Bluetooth wireless connection, which lets drivers use the phone even if it's located in a pocket or purse. Drivers can tell the phone to dial entries in their address book or any phone number using buttons on the steering wheel and voice commands.
Sync will work with digital music players such as Microsoft's Zune and Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod, Kolde said. Drivers can request specific artists and tracks by name.
Microsoft sold similar software last year to Fiat SpA, Kolde said.
The company's shares fell 17 cents to $29.64 on the Nasdaq Stock Market on Jan. 5. Ford stock dropped 8 cents to $7.62 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Microsoft liegt mit Xbox 360 in Front
Microsoft hat im Rahmen der US-Weihnachtsgeschäftssaison 2006 mit seiner Spielekonsole Xbox 360 einen Marktanteil von 51 Prozent generiert. Dahinter reihten sich Nintendo mit der Spielekonsole Wii und Sony mit der PlayStation 3.
Microsoft stieg bereits gestern auf den höchsten Kurs seit März 2002 und war damit der größte Gewinner im Dow Jones. Der Software-Titel profitierte in einem sehr festen Marktumfeld auch noch von einem optimistischen Analystenkommentar. Analyst Adam Holt von J.P. Morgan rechnet mit starken Verkaufszahlen bei der Software und den Unterhaltungsgeräten des Technologiekonzerns. Holt bezieht sich dabei auf ein Gespräch mit zahlreichen Führungskräften des Softwarekonzerns, das er auf der Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas geführt hatte. Danach entwickelt sich der Konzernbereich Unterhaltungssoftware und -Geräte in der 2. Hälfte des Jahres profitabler als der Markt bislang erwartet hatte. Der Blue Chip gewinnt derzeit 47 Cent auf 31,17 Dollar, also 1,53%.

Bei dem bisherigen Verkauf von Firmen-Lizenzen liegen die Vista-Zahlen vor den vergleichbaren Windows 2000-Zahlen, aber hinter den XP-Zahlen. Als Grund wird von den Experten u.a. angeführt, dass viele Firmen Vista erst ausgiebig testen werden, bevor es zu einer endgültigen Implementierung kommt.
Bedingt durch den Vista-Erscheinungstermin Ende 2006 erwartet der Konses keine allzugroßen Auswirkungen der Vista-Verkäufe auf die in Kürze erscheinenden Quartalsergebnisse.

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) sales for Vista, its new operating system update, during the first month after launch might be better than anticipated, according to one industry analyst.
NPD Group, which tracks point-of-sales and other data from retailers such as Soft Mart, Software Spectrum Inc. and CompuCom Systems Inc. in the U.S., said sales were higher for Vista in the first month than for the Windows 2000 update of its operating system. Vista sales were slightly under the level for Windows XP, which had a strong public relations campaign. The data involves corporate license purchases.
NPD analyst Chris Swenson declined to provide actual figures for unit sales. Microsoft also declined to share specific sales data.
"It's worth noting that even before we made it broadly available for volume license customers on November 30, we already had more than 500 early-adopter businesses," Mike Burk, a Microsoft public relations manager, said in an email response. "Since November 30, we've continued to see solid commercial demand." He added that the company was encouraged by reports such as NPD's and that Microsoft believes "Vista will be the fastest-adopted operating system" the company has ever released.
Vista for businesses hit the marketplace Nov. 30 with a somewhat subdued event at the Nasdaq offices. The consumer launch will happen later this month. Swenson said the little fanfare kept expectations in check for initial sales. Other analysts have said the adoption of Vista in the corporate marketplace might take some time since information technology staffs have to completely test the new software before mass implementation.
Swenson compared the Vista introduction to a movie studio launching a movie in a smaller European country before releasing it to the larger U.S. market.
But "the data suggests that medium and large organizations are buying Vista in a slightly higher proportion to small businesses than those that purchased XP," Swenson said.
Analysts have said that since the launch was relatively late in the recently ended quarter, they didn't expect it to have a big impact on the results scheduled for release later this month.

Microsoft's Ballmer Says Vista May Beat His Estimate

Jan. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said sales of the company's Windows Vista software to businesses may exceed his initial estimates.
``We're very excited about where we are out of the chute with Windows Vista,'' Ballmer said today in an interview in New York. ``I expect to see uptake at a pretty good rate relative to my early expectations.''
Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, released Vista for corporate customers on Nov. 30 and plans to introduce the operating system for consumers on Jan. 30. Microsoft is spending a record amount to market Vista in an effort to fuel revenue growth.
Citigroup Inc., the world's biggest financial-services company by market value, plans to start adding Vista to 350,000 desktop computers in June, Ballmer said.
``Those kinds of proof-points just continue to make the case to other enterprises,'' Ballmer said.
Investor doubts about the software's success caused Microsoft shares to lag behind competitors'. Redmond, Washington- based Microsoft gained 14 percent last year, while Oracle Corp. rose 40 percent and Google Inc. 11 percent. Microsoft rose 12 cents to $29.86 at 11:48 a.m. in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading today.
The Windows operating system runs almost 95 percent of the world's personal computers and generated $13.2 billion in revenue in the fiscal year ended June 30, accounting for about 30 percent of Microsoft's total sales.
Microsoft's digital music player, the Zune, made ``a very credible showing'' during the holiday season, Ballmer said. The Zune, priced at $249, is competing against Apple Inc.'s iPod, which dominates the market.
The Zune went on sale Nov. 14.
