Ciena eyeing Lucent's fiber-optic unit?
On Instinet, shares of Ciena Corp. (CIEN: news, msgs, alerts) was 66 cents higher at $39.90. The fiber optic networker is reportedly interested in Lucent Technologies (LU: news, msgs, alerts) fiber-optic cable unit, which has lately received bids as low as $3 billion to $3.5 billion, Reuters reported, citing a source close to the situation.
Analysts had initially expected Lucent's fiber unit could fetch as much as $8 billion.
Meanwhile, Lucent tacked on 23 cents to $5.85 over Redibook.
Fellow fiber firm JDS Uniphase (JDSU: news, msgs, alerts) jumped 89 cents to $11.80.
