Boralex, Q-Cells to develop solar power facility in southern France (ADPnews) - Jan 12, 2011 - Canadian clean power developer Boralex Inc (TSE:BLX) said on Wednesday it will soon start construction of a EUR-14.6-million (USD 19m) solar park in southern France in co-operation with the local arm of German solar power firm Q-Cells (ETR:QCE).
The project has met all regulatory conditions and construction is to commence on January 15, while completion is scheduled for May 2011. Q-Cells will build and cater for the facility under a turnkey agreement with Boralex.
The solar power plant will be located close to the Avignonet-Lauragais wind farm, thus forming the first combined solar and wind power site in France. A total of 85% of the project's costs will be covered from a financing arranged with Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg (LBBW). Output will be sold to French electricity provider EDF (EPA:EDF) under a 20-year agreement.
Boralex said it plans to further expand in the solar sector, with special attention to the French market.
