Los angeles-based NantWorks, the technology thinktank of Los Angeles billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, said Tuesday that one of its companies, NantPharma, has received $125M in an investment by private equity firm Blackstone. NantPharma is developing biologically derived pharmaceuticals, at a number of drug manufacturing and research facilities around the country. As part of the deal, Blackstone adds three people to NantPharma's board, including Chinh E. Chu, Anjan Mukherjee, and Arthur J. Higgins. NantWorks said it was advised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, as well as Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in the deal.
