Samsung Electronics named best-managed firm
SEOUL - Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory-chip maker, has been chosen as South Korea's best-managed local company by an Asian financial magazine, the company said.
According to the poll conducted by Finance Asia, a monthly publication, Samsung Electronics was found to have the top management of any domestic firm, followed by Hyundai Motors, POSCO, Samsung SDI and Shinhan Financial, the company said.
It has also been named as the firm with the best corporate governance and best investor relations in South Korea, the firm said. Its chief financial officer, Choi Doh-seok, was selected as the best chief financial officer in the country.
Other domestic companies cited for the best corporate governance were Korea Telecom, POSCO, Daelim Industrial and Kookmin Bank.
LG Electronics, Samsung SDI, Kookmin Bank and Hyundai Motors were also chosen by the magazine as firms with good investor relations in South Korea.
The 2004 Best Managed Companies poll was conducted between February and March among 424 fund managers, portfolio managers, equity investors and research analysts.
Companies from ten Asian countries - South Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, China and Indonesia - have been subjects of the poll.
